I Grok SpockStoryI don't see them much anymore, but for a while bumper stickers reading "I grok Spock" were fairly popular in fandom. After watching a documentary on "Trekkies" (Trekkers, Trekkoids, etc.), and being single myself, I got to wondering if grokking Spock was a sufficient basis for a marriage. No deep wisdom came of that pondering, but I wrote a cool song...
LyricsThe man has style, grace and witIf you need a good first officer, this guy is it He’s standing right behind you when you need to get a grip He’s everybody’s hero; he’s the man of the hour His dogma chased his katra right into a stellar cloud He never put the individual before the crowd I want to try a mind meld if you say that I’m allowed I tried to be like him and now I think I’m having pon farr I grok Spock He sure is cool He sees right through you; he’s nobody’s fool He’s your right-hand man when you deal with paradox I wanna be like him, yeah, I grok Spock I asked why she wasn’t waiting in line Screaming for an autograph and giving him the eye She laughed and said she got his name way back in ’85 But maybe later on he’ll meet her up in her room I said I guess it’s been a while since you became a Trekkie; She said, I prefer the term Trekker, if you please I said, If I act like him, would you want to be with me? She said the vulcan gets me going but I finish with the human She groks Spock She thinks he’s sexy Raising that eyebrow, she says he’s the best; he’s Slow-walkin’, low-talkin’, strong as an ox She’s getting turned on sayin’ she groks Spock Tell me all about the birds and the bees Tell me ‘bout the fishes swimming down in the sea Tell me ‘bout the way the wind makes love to the trees As it makes all the branches go swish and hum Oh the mystery dance is calling us to play Now we’re talking to each other in a whole new way Tell me what is going on in her tum-tum Won’t you please tell me where baby Trekkers come from Now we grok Doc Spock What a writer His manual makes our bouncing burden lighter We know what we’ll do when the kid walks and talks Oh yeah, we’re Trekker parents, but now we grok Doc Spock Lyrics index
