I Still Believe in DreamsStoryThis is more or less autobiographical, except that it isn't one story but a melange of events drawn from various weddings I've attended. What I was going for musically was the Tex-Mex style of George Strait's "I Wanna Dance With You". Mariachi, Calypso, whatever--I love all that stuff.
Lyrics[G] She felt [C/G] at the age she'd reached [G]Dreams were [C/G] for [G] the [D] young [D7] Every time she set out with a [D/A] plan, it all went [G] wrong [G] So she [C/G] said she'd settle down [G] [G7] Earn her steady [C] pay Live the dream [G] alone so she'd be [amin] ready when he [G] came It was at another wedding One more friend in white He stood there behind the groom A smile shone in his eyes After he escorted her Down the aisle to honor the day Before they spoke, he stood outside the Church And made this prayer [G] He said, "I still believe in dreams I [D] dreamed so long ago; I believe the world is as it seems; I [amin] don't know where visions [G] go. [G] "Maybe a painter could make a lasting [B] Picture of another [emin] world But [D] I can see the image of it in the [amin] eyes of this one [G] girl." Any time they visited Their friends who had a child Five years old with flaming hair And intelligence unbridled That small girl would cling to him Watching every move Everyone would speculate On how he won her love He said, "I still believe in dreams I dreamed so long ago; I believe the world is as it seems; I don't know where visions go. "Maybe a painter could make a lasting Picture of another world But I can see the image of it in the eyes of this one girl." He said, "I still believe in dreams I dreamed so long ago; I believe the world is as it seems; I don't know where wishes go. "I always hoped that someday and somewhere I could help to make a better world But now I see the beginning of it in the eyes of this one girl." Lyrics index
