Rainbows In Your Dreams

Story

In large part this is a reminiscence of a high school sweetheart. Garden Street is an idealization of a few places with a name that should ring familiar for a lot of people.

The song is written in Lydian mode. To make it easier, I use the following tuning: DADGAE, with DAD capo 3 to FCF. This, like Where's My Starship, is a dolphin-safe tuning ;-).

Lyrics

Rainbows In Your Dreams
1/16/02 & 1/29/02

Drop-D, capo 3 the three low strings

(dm) Packing a (am) picnic
(dm) basket and (am) blanket
(em) Talking and (F) laughing
(em) and holding (F) hands
(G/F) The clouds roll (F) in
(G/F) we run for the (C) car (C)

(F) The rain falls (G/F) on the (F) field
(F) At the end of (G/F) Garden (F) Street
(C) We listen to (D/C) music (C)
(G/F) And see (C) rainbows (G/F) in our (am/C) dreams

I go through the day
seeing what’s wrong
It’s the only way
for me to belong
I have to know
what I have to fix

But your eyes still see the fields
Of home near Garden Street
You still hear the music
And see rainbows in your dreams

I’ll be there for you
next time, just like last
I’ll dry your tears
and brush your hair
You never need to ask
What you do for me

In your eyes I still see the fields
Of halcyon Garden Street
Your voice is the music
(G/F) Of the (C) rainbows (G/F) in (C9) my (F) dreams
