Story of Our Lives

Story

Anybody else out there have an unfinished novel or story? Originally conceived as a plea for resolution from the characters, it evolved into something more like social commentary.

It started out as a typical pining away in lonliness song in 1988, but with a fresh set of lyrics, it's worth singing in public.

Lyrics

Sometimes I think my life is a fiction
With the author leaning back in his chair
Puzzling over a choice of expression
And leaving the plot in the air

I wonder if the world is changing
While some of us are sitting on the shelf
We need somebody creating our future
We can’t go there by ourselves

All of us are somebody else’s hero
Everything we are is something outside
Every person writes a line in the book
That tells the story of my life

Living my life in a world built around me
Wondering what it all means
Sometimes I think nobody else is real
Sometimes I take it as it seems

Maybe I don’t like the story I’m living
The author might not master the art
Maybe I’ll call it in front of a critic
Maybe find my counterpart

All of us are somebody else’s villain
Our motivations lie between the lines
We write a line in everyone’s book
That tells the story of a life

All of us are somebody else’s author
Everything they are comes from deep inside
Every person writes a line in the book
That tells the story of my life
