Totality

Story

Occasioned by a lunar eclipse, this is a reflection on those times when we experience failure. Specifically, the first verse is about being epileptic, the second about people who leave town to escape debts, the third about Dr. David Banner as portrayed by Bill Bixby.

Lyrics

In the middle of the day
Doing everything in the normal way
Then before you can turn around
Your hamartia will strike you down

Well you can run from your problems and change your life
But the demon you carry is still inside
It cuts your soul and it wounds your pride
You can make a deal but you just can’t hide

Hiding from your creditors
Taking unmarked detours
Certain that your sure disaster
Follows fast and follows faster

You can ignore the things that you’ve been through
But the habits you’ve learned are still with you
Change the story on what you do
But you forgot the lie ain’t true

Stand alone at the peak of your might
Stand alone and face the darkness
When the horrors eclipse your sight
All the world sees what you keep hidden

Searching for a doctor’s cure
Chasing after Chinese whispers
Raise up all your hopes and then
Crash into despair again

Well you can run from mistakes and change your name
But the monster within you is still the same
It might bring death, and it might bring fame
But there ain’t no way out of the game
