Story

Actually, this was written as a break from writing Adventure 101, which uses the image of a rabbit hole. It's pretty much a catalogue of characters from Carroll's books. The theme and mood are somewhere between Adam Selzer's "Lullabye in Twelve Nursery Rhymes", Rob Wynne's "Consumed By Wonder", and Erica Neely's "Christopher Robin".

Lyrics

[dm] The horses of the [E/D] sun are [gm] stabled [A7] on the [dm] moon [dminsus2]
[dm] The Red King is [E/D] grey and [gm] the White [A7] Knight is [dm] blue
[gm] The rabbit’s watch has [A7] stopped; his [Eb] date has stood him [dm] up
The [Bb] walrus walks [F] alone along the [gm] beach at [A7] dusk

The Mock [dm] Turtle drives a [Asus] rickshaw
Takes the [eb dim] Red Queen door to [gm] door
[dm] Looking for [em] another pawn
[Asus] Alice doesn’t [Aaug] come here anymore

The only happy are the hedgehogs and flamingos
And the knave of hearts, long gone
A moth flutters away from the hookah half-buried
The Mouse’s sentence has been carried out by cunning Fury

The Mock Turtle drives a rickshaw
Takes the Red Queen door to door
Looking for another pawn
Alice doesn’t come here anymore

Wrapped in a shawl is a sheared old sheep
What dreams may come when imagination sleeps,
When life ebbs away as the cold minutes pass
When the grin has faded from the face in the glass

The Mock Turtle drives a rickshaw
Takes the Red Queen door to door
Looking for another pawn
Alice doesn’t come here anymore
